My Views & Ethics
I will carefully choose which rats I keep for breeding to improve lines and help my goals.
I breed rats at an older age, starting at about 8 months, maybe older or slightly younger depending on the line and situation. I feel under 6 months is way too young.
I do not over breed. Once or twice is enough! Breeding is not about making money!
I use all methods of breeding, including line breeding, inbreeding and cross breeding, depending what I feel is best for the line.
I breed rats with pedigrees from trusted breeders. I have never bred without a pedigree. If I ever decided for any reason to do that, adopters would be informed of the risk of adopting unpedigreed babies.
All life is precious and I will not cull (kill) any babies no matter what they are. Common colors usually make the best pets anyway! The only good reason would be is if the rat is suffering.
My rats are strictly pets only. I am understanding of people breeding their own feeders and I do like reptiles. However, I love rats more and could never let my babies be adopted for such reasons. Their lives are too precious!
Although I have rescued in the past, I will not take any rescues from now on. It is a lot more work taking on rescues while breeding. Also a whole lot riskier, as you never know what health issues a rescue could have. Viruses kill fast and it's not worth the risk to my babies.
I strongly believe rats should be fed with the best diets possible. I strive to give my rats a healthier diet, including organics.
Rats deserve lots of human attention and space to play to be given the best life possible. Rats are unhappy left alone or in small, cramped cages. They love their humans and want to be with you!
